Wow those are some significant gains. I doubt it would be worth the effort to recover it.

anyone brave enough to try this?
sounds too good to be true... and a little daunting as the wording is sometimes unclear... I may have to do this on a spare drive just to see...

this is really weird...last year i baught a 80gig wd drive but it came out of the box as 100 even on the label i thought it was mispackaged and thought yay i get 20 free gigs...but i still have 8megs that will not go to a partition...could it be related

Did you guys bother to read the letter's page like they warn you to do at the beginning of that story? It's all explained. No "magical free" space to be had.

Do it and it'll appear to have worked. Then fill both drives (your original partition and the new "magical" partition) up with data and find all your data corrupted. Not smart.
