Food Time for spring cleaning

I know most all of us are pretty good about cleaning out our comp cases and dusting out the inside as well as blowing out the dust on the PS right .... Well the temps are on the rise so now is a great time to take care of it if you haven't already. I just spent the last hour or two taking apart my boxes, which means pulling out all the components, shooting the case with compressed air and pulling off the hs/fan and cleaning those as well as applying some new arctic silver to my CPU. I also pull apart the PS and shoot it with compressed air to make sure I get all the dust.

You'd be surprised how many calls I've gotten in the last few days from people with overheating issues or PS problems due to lack of preventative maintenance. As soon as the ambient room temps go up then the problems begin to show So take the time and clean that case

I've heard it said the changing the heat compound is needed time
to time. If the CPU fan has not been disturbed and if there is no
over heating, is it REALLY necessary to change the compound?

AFAIK if its not disturbed then there is no need to change, but i like to take off the HS and wash it. So i replace the artic silver a few times a year. You just have to remember that when applying it only takes a small amount and if you get too much it can be more harmful than good.

Um...one of my comps was running at 60C or 140F. Took off HS and washed CPU top thingy with some rubbing alcohol, put some new AS5 on there and temps went down to 48C or about 118-119F
