Anybody here using AVG Free Edition?

I can`t update the virus definition anymore via the automatic updates. I have been trying since 2 days ago and still can`t connect. I even tried manually but AVG can`t find the file I have in the desktop.

Anybody having the same issue?

My sister has been having the same issue on her Windows XP SP1 machine so I uninstalled AVG and got to purchase Trendmicro Internet Security 2004.... I know that doesn't help you but at least you know you are not alone in this.

Thanks guys for the feedback. At least I don`t feel alone in this.
Well I wrote an e-mail to AVG but they told me that the Free Edition is not supported. I only asked if their server was up and running....only that and nothing more

Well anyway lets hope they'll fix it soon.

I never feel "safe" running "free" antivirus software on my computers... bascially if they wanna shut the auto-update down they can and we never know about it. At least with paid subscriptions at least we know we have the latest (or best to our knowledge of) updates to protect our systems... even one virus slipping through these days can do major damage and I just don't want to take the chance. That is why I will never run free antivirus like AVG personal edition.

edit 7.0 is not free but they do hav a free6.6.14

I`ll try mine again now...I have 589. I hope it'll start working. Sixpac_XP you do have a point there, but I've been running AVG Free for quite some time now and this is the first time it did this to me. One of these days I`ll have to purchase the Professional edition though.......

AVG just issued a 2MB update (the usual update package is 200-500KB). Thousands of users have been hitting the AVG update service, so the primary server is severely lagging.

BTW, I am updating my copy of AVG right now at a thrilling 2KB/s.

i've been able to get the downloads w/little or no problem almost all the time. i do notice it is nearly impossible to get the updates during the daytime hrs here in the US...their server might be overloaded or something. i was working on 3 machines to give to charity and have not be able to d/l the the sigs in the last 2 weeks.

i do my av updates late at night and only had 1 problem in last 4-5 weeks. in fact, i just got the 3/8 update w/o no problem just now.
