hooking wireless internet to playstion 2. Please help.

Hello,

Ok, i have a question hopefully someone can answer. I use wireless internet with my desktop. If anyone else has wireless they know that its used through a pci card that hooks to a cable to your sattelite antenna. my question is since i dont have a modem and dont use a ethernet cord, how can i hook my internet connection to my ps2? Is there a way i can use a ethernet cord or a crossover cable from my computer to my ps2 and share my internet connection? Im kind stumped on this one and if anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!

Ok, you probably need a router because the playstation will want its own ip address..and you are only getting one IP address from the satellite I suppose.

A hub or switch dont make new IP addresses, they just multiply the number of connections etc.

I am not sure of exactly how the satellite stuff hooks up..but assuming you can get a router to give you extra IP addresses, you would then just need a thingy to go from the ethernet port of the playstation to the router....and all routers have wired ports so you could just do it that way, run a cat5 from playstation to router.....or you could get an adapter to go from the wired port of the ps2 to a wireless adapter.
So I think you would need a wireless router and then an access point for the playstation to talk to the router wirelessly.

OK, possibly they also call them.."Ethernet-to-Wireless bridge" http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/reviews/article.php/2242251

And they now make adapters specifically for making playstations or x-boxes wireless http://www.linksys.com/products/prod...prid=550&grid=

is the cable from the computer to the satalite antenna a standard cat5 (like a big phone jack) if so then all you would do is connect the satalite to the router in the modem port then upug one into the pc from the router and 1 into the ps2...or you could get a wireless fouter and keep the one from the router to the pc and wireless to the ps2

yeah..thats what I was saying about not knowing exactly how satellite hooks up etc...

you need some way to go from the satellite to a router..if tis even possible....surely it is though.

maybe some satellite websites have some how to's?
