News on Doom3 ;)

The german magazine PCGames Hardware has a quick Q&A with John Carmack in their latest issue. It’s very short, but there are a lot of new and unbelievable information.
A video card with at least 128MB RAM and Pixel Shader 1.1 support is required for DOOM 3.
A 2.5GHz CPU should be enough for the stencil shadows and physics calculations.
The testing phase might last till summer or even later this year.
DOOM 3 will be released on 4 CDs.
Last time we heard about the target system for DOOM 3 it was just a PC with a GeForce 3 class video card, but according to that Q&A it will be the minimum. Maybe we will find out more during the upcoming GDC.

Update: After reading this information, we asked id software for confirmation and they have replied saying that the information that appeared in the article is totally false and a fabrication on the magazine's part.

lol. no words. Magazine can be really fascinating sometimes..can they?!

PS: wOOt for the 800th post!

Congrats on the 800th post. I can't wait for Doom III, I am thinking about going to Best Buy and getting the pre-release for it. I figure I will pay for the game, and hopefully swindle my dad into paying for the computer upgrades that I will surely need.

Jeesh, some companies will do all sorts of BS for publicity C'mon, with those standards, you would lose over half the targeted buyers. The only part that might hold some truth is the 4 CD thing. I suspect it will take a good 2-3 CD's, hopefully they will have a DVD edition as well.

What is the little figurine that comes with it? I should really go and just drop the minute $9.99 (before tax, of course ) and it won't be a big deal.

BTW - Thanks, I am getting close..

*EDIT* I figure I might want to mention tony's comments. All sorts of BS for publicity? Yes, how dare they want to try and promote their product! The thing I like best about Carmack is that he said the game will be done when it's done, not mind games like Valve or Blizzard, with all of their crazy target dates of when their products will be released. (Although, Half Life 2 has a lot of work to do, if they want to beat out Diablo2).

THe little figurine is called the Pewter. Its like a litte minotaur.

Pretty cool and pretty small to unfortunately.

Tony...I wish they would start releasing games in DVDs. Far Cry will be released in DVD in Europe, while it will be 5 CDs here in the States. All they had to say about it was that DVD are still not very popular and they think they would loose some market if presented in DVD format.

DVD is not popular here????? I don`t agree.

are you sure that's the name? pewter is a type of metal used to make littl figurines

That is complete BS. i don't need confirmation to know that. Afterall..a "friend" ()of mine ran the alpha on his gf4 ti4200 w/ 256mb ram and a 1.5gHz XP and averaged 30-fps at default detail...and this was the ALPHA! another friend of mine ran the game on his gf2 and still got around 17fps.

also i'm almost positive it won't be using pixel shaders since they are normally used for shadows, which Id is doing using stencil shadows. i could be wrong on this tho, just my theory
