I need help with windows 2000
okay i just put windows 2000 on my old computer. everything was working fine until it came time to install the drivers for my old windows 98 hardware. somehow i messed up, installed the win98 drivers and messed up the device manager, either way my sound card doesnt work anymore. i was given an option to upgrade windows 2000... to windows 2000, so if i chose the upgrade, will it erase all my files?
someone help, im in need of assistance!

yup and if that doesn't work then (if this is a pci soundcard) take out your card, (after uninstalling drivers and with pc turned off, we had some guy pull it out while it was still on...lmao) and restart your comp, then shut it down and install it again and turn it on. Pretty much the same thing as uninstalling it through device manager. Also if u have played with your bios lately and u have onboard audio make sure in the integrated perhiperals or whatever that your sound card is turned on.

I tried re-installing the drivers and pulling out the sound card, and all that stuff. What happened was installed windows 2000 on a computer with many old cards and stuff, i installed the driver for windows 98, thinking that it would work and it made all kinds of problems with the system now. So if i UPGRADE, will it erase my files like music, pictures, and documents?

if you do an upgrade it will NOT erase your files.
but be warned that an upgrade will keep your current drivers so what you will want to do is start the installer from within windows, but select a clean install.
what will happen is it will copy the files to your hard drives while you are in windows and when it restarts to do the actuall install it won't even let you format that drives since that is where the install files are.

So if i clean install, it will let me keep my files and start with the factory drivers for windows 2000? because that would be what i was looking for this whole time.

yes, you will keep all of your files...just note that you will still have to reinstall all of your programs and such still, but your files will be intact
