ok... i finally went wireless. im running the built-in network adapter that came with my laptop, which, im told, supports b g and a formats. and the router is a linksys wireless b. the cable modem is also a linksys if it matters. (i dont think it matters).
now...on to the fun stuff...
not long ago arcticfox posted a
thread. in which phenious wrote (the stuff in bold

):
Change your SSID. You cant connect to a network unless you know its ID. Routers all have the same ID when they are shipped so change it to something else.
did this... no prob
Now that you changed it disable broadcasting of the ID otherwise changing it didnt do any good.
piece of cake.
Enable Wep. Highest setting your router supports and randomly generate a key. 0000000000000000000 isnt a good key...
Enable MAC Filtering. With this setting only known MAC address will be allowed to access your router. That alone will stop most people.
WOAH NELLY!!!!
ok... when i enable WEP it kills my connection. then i can only get it back once i physically connect to the router and can disable WEP once more.
whats going on here? why does it keep doing this?
next question:
how exactly do i filter the MACs? (and why would i want to do this? i mean, if im not broadcasting and they dont have my SSID... how would they know im even there?)
if you have a comptuer wired to the wireless router disable access to the router config via wireless settings. This way they cant try to guess your router password and play with your settings.
i must be blind... is this setting in the router config or in windows wireless network settings somewhere?
thanx in advance ppl
