Kids Downgrade to 2K from XP Pro?

I am running XP Pro and lately it has been giving me a few problems. One thing I dont like much is all the flashy colors. I was wondering if it would be better to switch to 2K Pro. And if I do, can all my programs like from Win95 all the way to XP work on 2K? I have a fairly fast system so compatability shouldn't be a problem but my file system is NTFS, will this work in 2K?

Any and all opinions are appreciated.

My system:

MSI K7T266 Pro RAID mobo
AMD 1.4Ghz Athlon
40GB WD HDD
Geforce2 MX400 64MB
256MB DDR SDRAM

Thanks a lot!

You can get different themes, that's what I would suggest as far as toning down the flashiness.

Some programs from Win95/98/Me will not work with 2000/XP. You can try the 95/98 emulation in XP, but 2000 and XP are based on the same kernel, different from 95 - Me.

You can change to the "classic" mode to get rid of all of the fruity colors. You can do this in the appearance tab of display properties.

In answer to your question, yes Windows 2000 uses NTFS too, and has approximately the same compatibility as XP. It also runs faster.

Hi cracked,

Going to WIN2K wouldn`t be a very good idea as long as you have XP Pro .. they are the same .. and Yes, win2k should work on NTFS file system ...

I read your problem with explorer.exe (sorry, but i couldn`t figure that out) .. maybe it was a corrupted file ...

Anyway, I would suggest that you format your HDD and reinstall WinXP, give it another chance while we are on weekend.. disable the flashy colors by switching to classic windows and start menu ... if it still gives you hiccups .. then go for win2k .. that what would i do ..

About ccompatibility, mmm, some programs will work some will not .. some will work fine, some will give you headaches ... you`d be lucky if your software maker released a patch for win2k or XP ... so check their sites ...

Good luck dude
Regards
