i bought an ads tech usb 2.0 external drive enclosure about a year ago, had to have it replaced, and now im having problems with the second one.
its pretty much an off and on problem, the hard drive/cd drive/whatever doensnt always work. ive tried multiple hard drives in it so i know its not the particular drive that is the problem. most of the time i will turn it on, hear the hard drive spin on, then theres a loud click and it starts over. it does this with several hard drives that work fine in my computer. tried updating the drivers for the hell of it, no change. i yarded all the guts out of the enclosure and reconnected them on my desk, got it to work a couple times.
thing is that its not covered by the warranty anymore, and i dont want to buy ANOTHER one. anyone know if i could find a replacement ide to usb chip? ive tried different ide cables inside the enclosure, doesnt make a difference.
