V8PC Logo - Contest!

Hi Guys, It's been ages since I've visited here but when I needed some help this is where I came. I think it's been like 2 years or so! Anyway, good to be back. Now, who can help me with my new company logo?

The company is called V8PC (cool eh?) and I have mocked up a quick logo which I quite like actually but it needs that certain "something". If I was to provide a brief it would be to atleast make the logo 3D with some shine. Maybe something in black chrome would be nice. The V8 can also be in a slightly different colour but that might risk losing the crossover effect. Anyway, justy do what comes to you and I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

I want to see what else you guys can come up with. The name lends itself to many ideas so as well as trying to spiff up my current logo I'd also like to see what you all come up with.
Bare in mind that it must be simple because I need to replicate it on T-Shirts and hats and in small format for the top left hand corner of the new website.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you guys can do and of course I will pay for the right logo if I choose to use it. Paypal is available and you will receive the cash instantly. So, what does a cool logo go for these days? I have no idea so I'd appreciate some guidance on that point.

Good luck!

Edit:
I have decided to give away a T-Shirt (with the new logo) to the person who designs the logo I choose plus $50 paypal. The contest ends when I decide I like a design. (is that ok? or should I put a definite time limit?)

Well, I'm not sure. I've been reading posts in this forum and some are contests, some are for money and some are just plain 'please' requests. I just need a cool logo for my business and all the graphic designers I have contacted have wanted money up front. I'm not going to pay someone up front for a logo I haven't seen yet that's for sure but I will pay someone for a logo I like and will use. Even if I take their design ideas and go with modifying it further myself I will recognise the contribution that they made to the design and will reward them for their effort.

How do I turn it into a contest? Should I turn it into a contest? Should I offer prize money? How much is a usual amount to pay for such a contest? I know that I want some of you that have the skill to spend a bit of time working on it so (like I said) I am willing to pay some cash especially if I can get the layered psd included in the prize. Which raises another point. If I like the design I'll need a high res one for printing and T-Shirt use. The artists who's logo I choose will definitely get a T-Shirt that says. "V8PC - Speed Is Of The Essence" on it. That might be of some interest to one of you.

Cool!

Like I said, there are two options. Improve mine or come up with your own. If I like it I'll pay for you to come up with a layered high res (300dpi) psd that I can use.

Actually the more I think of it the more I like the idea of a contest. The winner gets a T-Shirt and US$50 in their Paypal account (I live in Australia). Is there usually a time limit on these contests?

Remember, it can't be too busy and must read easy both on a T-Shirt and in the corner of a web page as well as on a business card and on stationary.

Correspondence will be entered into so if any of you like a specific design let me know.

Contest Rules....

http://www.techimo.com/forum/t99777.html

You must first have a moderator (or me) approve the contest. We approve contests based upon merit and rules. We require a prize to be given to at least one "winning" entry. A person can not hold a content, then decide not to give out a prize because they did not like any of the entries.

Another possibility is a type of solicitation (no approval required). That is were you would post a clearly defined offer (usually monetary), then ask people to consult directly for you. If soliciting for a graphic, you need to state the payment options and the terms of the agreement (logo type, size, style, etc.). People can then chose if they want to submit a graphic for your consideration or possibly contact you for further details. Unlike a contest, a solicitation does not require you to select a graphic if none meet with your approval.

Thanks Rob.

Like I said, I haven't been here in a long while and have no wish to direspect the rules of this board so I think my request comes under the definition of a solicitation.

The logo I choose will be paid one V8PC T-Shirt, US$50 and will be asked to provide a high resolution (layered) PSD (if possible) for which they will be paid an extra (to be agreed upon) fee (if that's ok?). Is that in accordance with the guidlines? Let me know if it isn't and I'll adjust my conditions.

As mentioned previously, The logo will be used primarily for the top left corner of the website and will have to be visible when reduced in size to about 100-200 pixels wide. I haven't finished the header yet so I can be flexible about the design. The main reason I like my original is because it is easy to see at a small size but like I said before, it lacks a certain...something which I can't define. I think if the pic had too much detail then it would be lost when shrunk to web-logo size. Obviously a happy medium will have to be reached. If you want to start in a larger size (300dpi) and reduce it for the web we will be able to use the large one for printing and T-Shirt backs.

In the meantime, keep them coming in because I like the designs you are coming up with. The V8 part brings to mind, fat smoking tyres and flame belching exhaust pipes, the PC brings to mind circuit boards and LED lights. If these two concepts can be married together in a logo that travels across all mediums then I'd be willing to pay more for the final work because (obviously) it would require more work and detail. Just some ideas to get your creative juices flowing.
