RAMBUS memory Q

I'm switching cases and I don't want to use this crappy DELL mobo so I want to go buy a cheap one that'll tide me over 'till I buy 939 chipset. Sooooooo, I just want to replace the mobo...I'm using a P4 1.8A CPU and RAMBUS memory. Does anyone know of an ASUS MSI ABIT Gigabyte or any other mobo that is well known that will work with my RAMBUS memory? I think this is all that's stopping me right now...I just need to tide over 'till 939...The reason behind me doing this is mainly because I don’t think my DELL mobo will work with standard parts (like PSU and case LED’s for example).ALSO, if I do this, then I can overclock this CPU too, because I hear the 1.8A has insane overclockablility. Will RAMBUS fit into DDR slots? Please please give me good news/advice .

Red.

NO it will not fit in ddr slots...I think that rambus only came with the socket 423s but i could be wrong

You will be able to over clock on a different board as well

you will need to get some crimms (0MB memory sitcks) if you are going to get a board with more than your current memory slots

don't know of a good reseller for them since www.compgeeks.com is sold out but i do know they are usually really cheap like under $30 check pricewatch and ebay though

RAMBUS is a dead end. Part with it, sell the RIMMs off to a fellow sufferer who just wants more RAM. Then migrate to any DDR RAM based board of your choice.

You'll get that misconception. I had pc800 on my 478 socket P4 1.5gig machine. Mobo was Asus P4T-E for any that question it. Thats another misconception! That williamette's only came in 423. They didnt. 423 was always dubbed a transition socket. Willy came in 423 and 478 so did the rambus support. Even pc1200 mem WAS made. Just never sold mainstreem. There was even a parallel/seriel rambus mem type. Was two sticks of seriel mem back to back so you could upgrade in singles (but was really pairs technically). Im with peter on this. As I did the same. DITCH rambus (sue happy slobs anyhow) and get the real $/per performance stuff. DDR.

How is that a misconception? In case you read my post wrong, I wrote that rdram was not limited to socket 423. Btw, you missed an interface that supported rdram.

I also had a rdram based system years ago.

I was agreeing with you. drink your coffe 1st BEFORE posting. LOL.

"Btw, you missed an interface that supported rdram"

Uh and that was- (since you know?). LOL I was covering P4 rdram NOT pentium 3. THe last was Pentium 3 for your info. And it sucked. It didnt beat sdr pc 133 muchless ddr. So why bring it up. P3 rdram platform was dead at launch time. P3 wouldnt benefit from any more bandwidth then pc133 anyhow. Im sure Peter will back me up on that. heh. How many ddr p3's rigs did you see NONE. Thats why. If seriel rdram couldnt help, (low trace count high bandwidth) no way parallel ddr would.

well

Well from what ive been reading, rambus didnt help pentium 3 was becasue the processors and bus speed was not fast enough to take advantageof rambus. Part of the reason intel brought p4's with rambus chipsets is because they thought their cpus would benefit from rambus's speed. And it did for some applications. If rambus didn't get sue happy and didn't sell the sticks so freakin expensive they would be king right now. Now that rambus has 32bit sticks, which means no more pairing, they have more bandwidth and less latency. And latency was their weakness. But because of all the stuff that happenned, no one cares what rambus has to offer now.
BUT i see them making a comeback. I bought stocks in them just incase just so i make alittle money if they do. That XDR looks pretty sweet. Its just a matter of time when rambus and all the manufacturing companies and especially intel get along again.

And yes it supports 478 socket. I have a gigabyte ga-8ihxp with 3.06 ghz 533mhz p4 running at 3.27 ghz at 142fsb.(no need to try any higher) I just wish they had a 800 bus speed motherboard.
