DHCP and static IP

If I have DHCP enabled on a Linksys Router, can I still specify an IP address on an individual workstation without getting a conflict?

in other words can I have DHCP enabled and still set static IPs on the computers without a prob?

What model router? Some have options in the config to allow just that. Check the config pages.

I do that with my DHCP, but it's an IPCop software router.

Cheers

Yes, but if you can, make the static IP's reserved in the DHCP setup.

For instance:

Scope(Range) of DHCP-assigned IPs: 192.168.0.10-192.168.0.40

Static IP you're wanting to assign: 192.168.0.15

Change scope to: 192.168.0.16-192.168.0.40

OR

If your router has MAC to IP mapping, you can just find out the MAC address of your Network Card either in your router DHCP list, or by going to Start > Run type in cmd hit enter. Then type in ipconfig /all and it will list the MAC addresses and other stuff about your NIC.

Then just enter that info into your router.

HTH,

Dave
