IBM Thinkpad 760 EL problems

I am having difficulty starting up my IBM Thinkpad laptop, model 760 EL. It'll start up partially and then once it gets to the Windows 95 starting up screen, the screen goes blank and the speakers make a beep. When I move the switch to turn it back on, it make two more beeps each time. What should I do to fix this problem?

Will it do a boot to C: using a boot floppy? What do the BIOS ROM diagnostics say?

In the end this notebook can be replaced for $ 40- $60 on Ebay by a comparable working 760el. If hardware is the problem a used unit replacement might be the best solution.

there is only a CD drive on the computer... but the beeping noise is similar to the one that beeps whenever the computer is open (the keyboard panel that flips open to reveal the hardware on the inside), almost as if the computer thinks its open, when its not. Is there anyway to bypass that, if thats the problem?
