What you need to do is, boot from cd drive with Windows install cd, then when it asks you to push F6 to load third party SCSI controllers, do that and it will ask you to insert a disk with drivers for your controller on it. At that point, insert a floppy with the SATA controllers on it if your board came with one, or you might have to download the drivers from the board manufacturer website. After you get it to recognize that, you should be able to install to the SATA drive and be good to go.

Shawn

Edit- Oops, didn't notice board was Asus.....you'll have to download the silicon image SATA controller drivers from their website.

On my motherboard (A7N8X-D Rev. 2.0) the SATA controller searches for bootable SATA drives first then IDE bootable drives. You may have to set the SATA jumper on the motherboard to on to enable the controller.

Shawn is on the right track with the SATA controller drivers to install windows.

and finally... Welcome to TechIMO! :-)

i got your answer

i had the exact same thing happen to me and yes, you do need a floppy for this to work. go to a local computer store and buy the cheapest one and an empty floppy. next step, go to a via website and d/l this driver:

VIA VT8237 <------ that'll boot your sata hdd if it's the only hd. basically, after you d/l the driver, copy over the sata drivers; remember, keep the root directories as root directories. this is completely fool proof the drivers on the k8v are pieces of crap. i was totally let down by asus and their non sata compatible drivers. anyhows, if you got any more questions or need more help, i'm on aim as:
