Kids Linux help..no GUI, what did I do?

I just installed Mandrake 9.2 without a hitch. The only problem I have is that it boots to a non-graphical command line interface. How do I get it to go to a GUI? Is there a command I need to enter?

Much thanks,

Type in "startx" without the quotes and see what that gets you.

Hmmmm.. de ja vu. Same thing happened to me, installed without any problems, but I wasn't paying close enough attention to what I was doing.

In the end, I reinstalled it....which was just as easy. Since you haven't had a chance to mess with anything, just reinstall.

Trust me, it'll save you some trouble.

Just pay attention to every step, and make sure you choose a graphical interface when it comes to that step ( I chose Gnome personally ).

What video card do you have?
Didn't you configured X at installation time?
If you type "startx" and a GUI doesn't start, it's probable that you didn't configured the Xwindow system.
You'll have to run Xconfigurator.
(I think it has different names depending on the distro).

the name is xf86config and it will run the command line configuration tool for the X windowing system.

If startx does not work just post up the error, it may be easily fixable.

thanks K!
(I don't know why I always forget that name! :P ).
Although, is it the same for every distro?
I remember I had to type Xconfigurator in one distro in particular ...
