Asus Motherboard

I've got a problem with an a7n8x motherboard. I built this new computer for a friend, putting in a 120gb hd, 512mb mem, DVD/CDRW, and loaded it up with winxp home. Everything seems fine, except when I try to either play a game, or try to play a DVD. In either case, I get the quick flash of the BSOD (not able to read what it says), and then it reboots. I completely reformated the disk, tried the newest and some of the older drivers, with the same result.

Any ideas?

I'm using the on-board sound, video and ethernet.

Ah, you have a different version of the A7N8X than I do then. I've never dealt with their on-board video setup.

I suspect it's hardware related. Perhaps your video chipset is incompatible with some other piece of hardware you've got, or it's overheating.

Hopefully someone else has a better idea than I do.

Try lowering your memory speed. If you have DDR2700 run it at a 266 instead of 333 and see if the problem goes away. Post back here with your results.

Man, wish I could. I don't see any memory settings in bios.

BTW - I ran memtest86 for over 2 hours with no errors.

I'm thinking its something to do with the on-board video, but it passes dxdiag tests.

what os are you running?

i assume winxp or win2k?

to disable the blue screen restart so you can see the blue screen

right click on my computer, click propertise, then advance, click start up and recovery, then deselect automatically reboot

this is ms way of getting rid of the blue screen in a sense

now play your game and when it blue screens please post what it says

do you have proper cooling and the latest updates for the os and the hardware?

Ok, I disabled the auto reboot, and was able to get the BSOD. It gives the nv4_mini.sys is the problem. I also noted the address if that helps.

As to the other suggestions, it is a 350 watt ps, QMax. It was quoted saying it was approved for AMD systems.

I am not overclocking. I don't even know if I CAN overclock with this motherboard. No jumpers and no settings in bios.
