which free distros for old laptop

as the title says, i have an aol laptop which had a win 98, im im trying out new os, which do u recommend, it has amd k62 processor i thinks its hp model#n3310. i tried installing fedora but it hangs after just the second core...prolly it cant take it..

Well Mandrake would be fine, it's free and we're at rev 9.2 right now, with beta testing of the next version. Try that, and maybe consider SuSE. I'd use RedHat if I had a specific purpose in mind, like using all the kickass screen savers it comes with.
