connecting laptop to tv

hi everyone,
im tryin to connect my laptop(ibm r40) to a tv monitor using the s-video cable.I have all the settings ok,picked the pal format, but whenever i connect the picture is black and white.I tried everything but still balck and white.(besides that all appear perfect on the screen) Only time it worked is when i connected to a new tv monitor where it had an option for s-vhs video input.
Is there anything i can do to make it work to tvs with that dont have such option?
thanks

Does your current TV have an S-video cable input? You can buy a little cable changer which has an S-Video input on one end and a composite video out on the other. So you can take the S-Video out from the computer to the S-Video cable, to the lil adapter, then use a composite video cable to plug into the TV.

I made my own adapter cable with parts from Radio Shack and this schematic

Cut one of the yellow ringed RCA connectors off and replace it with the Svideo connector. The 470pF capacitor will fit inside the Svideo jack

Svideo Plug

12' AV cable

I got the capacitor from an old ISA video card I had laying around (look for a very small ceramic capacitor marked 47k).

Audio adapter

BTW - The reason that you are only getting a B&W picture is because the adapter that you are using is only connecting the luminence, and not the chrominance.
