When you start up the computer and is goes to the screen were u pick thed user. No user names appear. Short of reinstalling is there any way to make them reappear?

Well you need to set a password for the current user. In other words you most likely have 1 user defined besides the admin account that is installed automatically as a troubleshooting account. This account will not usually appear at the startup anyhow.
To add a password to your current account:
Go to the control panel and click User Accounts
Select your user account
Click Change my password
Restart the computer
You should now see your user account at the start up.
