Systems um.......lan?

Im just needing some advice. I want to play games like UT and CS and stuff but my dial up is pretty poor for such intensive games. I cant get better here atm.

Was thinking the other day. "cant i just hook up me n my mates computers?"

i just want to get 3-4 of us together and play these types of games with little lag.

I asked on a forum i ususally visit and was told i net a hub a card in each comp and some cabling. Was nosing around overclock.co.uk and seen the cards and cabling seems to be quite cheap. Im lost on the hub bit. Can any of you people (im sure there s a whole bunch of you ) that can point me in the right direction for not much money?
