computer constantly forgetting usb keyboard

randomly when i start up and every time i go into bios and restart the computer stops seeing my usb keyboard. i am forced to run to go downstairs and grab an old ps2 keyboard thats being used for my old compaq. I'm using the compaq's keyboard on this new computer. I think the problem is that I'm having to use the windows drivers (HID keyboard device) for the keyboard. I tried to download the drivers for the keyboard (easy access button support thing) and the file errored. Anyone know of a workaround? I'm wondering if using a usb to ps/2 adapter (like ones with intellimouse) would cause it to work any better? I may have to just get a new keyboard.

Doesn't anyone have any ideas? I cant find usb to ps/2 adapters like the ones that come with intellimouse anywhere online available by themselves. I think the driver doesn't work because it's made for compaq computers only. I may have to try taking the driver files from the compaq and transferring them to this computer.
