i wouldn't mind solving a math puzzle or something but heres a better idea

make it so that if the user clicks a button then the company gets charged...unless the user has previously sent an e-mail to that address...that way you could sign up for mailing lists and the companies need not worry about getting charged by a user who wants to quit the mailing list...of course the user would have the option to remove someone from the list they are not allowed to charge and the company would be notified by the e-mail company or something...of course the company would have a reasonable amopunt of time (72 hrs)? before it goes into affect

well thats my theory...mabey someone sees a flaw that i'm missing though...if this becomes a serious issue i will probobally write up a more formal plan ad send it to say a senator or someone

"Some proposals even allow recipients to set their own rates. A college student might accept e-mail with a one-cent stamp; a busy chief executive might demand a dollar."

I'm confused.. the $.01 goes to the person who you send the money to? I'd accept all the spam in the world, then. I wouldn't have to open it, I'd be rich in no time!

This will never happen. We don't pay for postal service access, we pay for the delivery. We pay for internet access, delivery of information comes with it. We pay for cell phone service, placing a call comes with it.

Even if I pretend this is remotely possible, the amount of message boards will be in the billions. Just post a message to someone's personal board, and they reply with one to yours. Or have a live, always updating java window for conversation. Or just IM them.

It would probably make you really made when you get charged for e-mail and still get spammed and viruses. The spammers would probably find a way to steal your account and charge YOU for sending spam to you....

What I don't understand is why the government(s) cannot just crack down on the companies doing this. AFAIK, there are only a select number of agencies responsible for most of the world's spam.
