Whirring sound from my IBM laptop - advice please

Hi I have a IBM A22m laptop and recently its started to make whirring noises. I'm not sure if this comes from the harddrive or the processor. Sometimes I think its the harddrive, sometimes I think its the cooling fan of the processor. Is there anything I can do about this?

Have you run any disk utilities to check if the drive has any problems?
Also, when do you hear these noises? Everytime?
Or just when running applications, etc.?

Hey thanks for replying. Disk utilities says that the disk is fine.

I normally hear these noises only when running applications.

It could be a normal sound associated with the disk running!
Or did you noticed this sound recently (as something out of the ordinary).

its seems like something out of the ordinary...coz its just started a month back. I've had this laptop for over a year now. And its only when I run some applications.
