MSI files in the Registry.

Are the MSI registry files a windows file or part of Symantics installation software?

They make video cards too. I have both MoBo and Vidcard made by MSI. I have MSI files in my registry and some folders.

?? Or do you mean . MSI type files, as in the extension??

Welcome to TechIMO!!

Ooops!!

I think some can be from Symantec.

See page 4 on this PDF. It refers to pcAnyhere.msi.

Files with the extension .msi are used by the Microsoft Installer, perhaps this is what you are looking at?

Regards

Yep MSI is a motherboard. I've had 3 actually but don't have one right now. It used to be my favorite mb. Never had their video card. But I did know about it.

OK Bill, is this link a test because I read the last one you gave me?

Ed, yep that's it. I have had a problem with reloading my anti virus after reloading windows. I get an error on installation that my c drive locked or unavailable... I went through the registry and blew out all the Norton stuff, there sure was a ton of it... And found references to the msi file in the registry associated with it and in the install log. I was going to try one more time. I'm not big on calling tech support...
I didn't know if there was a Microsoft installer in the OS or if there was one embedded in the Symantec disk.
My OS needs a format and fresh install so I figured I'd poke at the registry and learn a little about it. I haven't done any tweeking or exploration for a while and I'm going to change all that

BTW don't say it! (and someone has a Linux distro in the mail to me as we speak )

edit

Now that I look at it again (the installation log), I think it is the MS installer.. The installer must create the reg keys for the software.. (am I close? )
MSI (c) (04:88): Dir (target): Key: INSTALLDIR.4FA1146A_7B13_4D85_AB29_0FC9DE6E4E68 , Object: C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\
