LINUX!LOST IP CAN'T GET BACK
Alright so I updated to Fedora Core 1 and set all the information. Yes I am finally starting to understand this Demon of an OS. But now when I try to access the Internet I get an Unknown host error message?!?!!?!?!?!>? So I go in and try to do Network Configuration and the connection is inactive. I try to activate it and get the Determininge IP addresss.....FAILED!! So I check Sys Info and bam, there it is IP address and all. Truely frustrated at this point so I decide to log into the dreaded terminal and take a look around. Navigate to /etc/hosts, cat it, and all the information is proper, have the loop back address in there, domain name, and host name. I then go to sys and look at the networking/ipfcf-eth0 and once again all the information is proper. Now I decide to go to /dev and find the eth0 and nada!! I'm not sure if that is correct or not but I could not find it there. I viewed my hardware profile and the driver lists it as /dev/eth0 but where is it?? I also checked the hardware tab under the network config and it is telling me that the IRQ is unknown??
Please help before I smash my computer into little tiny bits..... Inappropriate thread title edited.

Even if you are angry its not a proper title for your post I think. I wont help you just because of that. I know your angry but you could have made the titel a bit friendlier.

try
ifconfig
See what the output it gives
also check
/etc/resolv.conf
This is the file that linux gets your DNS provider information
Come on Dan, thats cheesy... agreed its not a proper title but come on

First he puts his titel in Caps Lock, then that unproper word is in it. No, I wont answer his question. He could have done the titel of the thread different because that IMO is not proper for this forum. And Vass if you think its cheesy, well no can do.

As Vass suggested, use ifconfig eth0. You will need to be su or root to do this.
Also make sure the module for your network card is loaded. What card is it?
As he said, check /etc/resolv.conf for your DNS servers. Can you ping IP's and just not resolve names? Another thing to check.

At least I dont write bad words in my posts. The content is more important than the spelling IMO. Peace out

Nicely put Dan but I'm an 24 year old punk who has uses bad language. I apologize if I offended you and I will refrain from using foul language in these posts again.
JKrohn and Vass,
I will check these out as soon as I get home, I am at work right now and I will let you know what happens when I do it.
JKrohn, apologies man, I don't remeber the make of the card off hand. The only reason why I remember the error message is because I got it soooo many times.
thanks all!!

Apologize accepted Just warning you that there are moderators that look for all this bad stuff, and I use bad language all the time (believe me on this) but when I know its not accepted here I respect that. But I know how you felt when posting this post, anger. Thank you for being comprehensive.
