Just wondering if anyone can step me through the procedure of removing mandrake from my pc.
Have tried to boot up on the first linux disk but it keeps taking me to the boot loader.

Send a message via ICQ to washe
have you enabled cd rom as your primary boot device?

Yeah I want to completely remove it to free up some disk space.
And yeah I have it set to boot from cd.I get the message "booting from cd" or something similar but a few seconds later it goes to the boot loader, giving me no choice but to use windows or linux(not the disk).

cheers

What if you disable or remove the HD as a Boot Device?

The only time I removed it I wrote zeros to remove the partition with the HD manufacturers disk. If you are keeping windows you need the Mandrake Disk.

Do youn have a Windows CD? I think its easier to use a Windows CD to delete a Linux distro of my computer. Thats how I do it at least.

I set the boot sequence in the bios to only detect the cd drive but it seems to be doing its own thing.
I have a win cd but thought you couldnt use it to remove linux.
Is it possible to just do an FDisk on the partition in question?

cheers

just noticed, can I format the drive by right clicking on it and choosing that option?

About not booting from CD:
are you sure it doesn't also prompt you to press any key to boot from CD? Try pressing something when those little dots are lining up.

If you can boot from you windows cd you can go into the recovery console and use the "fixmbr" command (for xp... not sure about the other flavors) to rewrite the bootloader into it's original, windows-only state. Then you just have to delete the linux partition (partition magic or fdisk or something) and you're good to go.

Have the XP CD or win98 bootdisk handy.
Boot into Mandrake and open Mandrake Control Center.
After root login, go to Mount Points> Diskdrake and delete the Linux partitions from there.
Reboot with the XP CD to run fixmbr or the win98 bootdisk to run fdisk /mbr.

Ok did the fdisk/mbr thing in dos and got rid bootloader.
Used partition magic and formatted the partition that held linux.
It lost 10gig of a 12 odd gig partion.
How can I recover the rest of that partition?

cheers
