FDISK - Question

I've used FDISK when partitioning drives ever since I learned how years ago.
Now, I havent deleted a partition in awhile so I'm stuck here.

I have 2 partitions on a 80gb drive (current concern).
I have 1 partition on a 60gb drive.

File system is NTFS on E: and FAT32 on C:

Displayed as C: and E: in WindowsXP Pro

FDISK displays them as Partition 1 and 2 on Drive C:

I try to delete the "extended partition" (#2) but it says it cannot delete an extended partition with an active "logical dos drive". So I go to the previous screen and try to delete any logical dos drives I may have but to no avail. I have no logical dos drives to delete. I go back to delete the extended partition but it still states there is a logical dos drive.

FAT32 drives don't recognize NTFS drives so I cannot delete the partition from within Windows98 (dual boot, 98 on C: [#1]), and I cannot delete the partition from within XP when I'm using it.

My goal is to re-install XP since the built-in repar did not repair.

If you can help me with the logical drive mystery I'll be grateful.
If you can help me with an alternate XP uninstall method I'll be grateful.

thanks.

if you have an alternate pc , look for a free tool for xp fdisk
it's called "delpart"
It fits on a floppy and is bootable for ntfs file structure deletion and reformat.
I'm sure you will find a read me that will explain it better

Yeah, just boot off the cd and use xp utilities. Much faster.

Yep, can't imagine why you would mess around with FDISK unless your PC BIOS doesn't support booting to a CDROM. If that's the case it probably should'nt be running XP as it almost has to be several years old. Partition from within the XP setup.

Tell that to my XP CD.

It's always done strange things. The reason I never reformat is because my CD is whacked or something. For instance, I try to boot off of the CD....it doesnt even see my XP CD and continues to load XP...but if I put in my 98 CD, it sees that @ bootup.

:| Beats me...all's resolved now though thanks.
