HTTP Server behind router

Hi-

I want to run a site but i dont know how to get a HTTP server to run from behind a router. Im using a linksys BEFSR41 router and Fastream NETfile server as a HTTP software. I dont know how to configure the router so that the ip is not 192.168.1.101. Can some one people help me?

Thanks

Manually set your HTTP server's IP to something with a last octet below 100, like 192.168.1.5 or something. Then in the Port forwarding section, set port 80 to forward to the same IP you gave your server.

Yes they will see the web site, if you forward port 80 to your HTTP server's IP. I have the same Linksys and I set up a FTP server the same way. To the outside world, it will appear that you have a HTTP server running on the IP leased for your broadband device (be it DSL or cable).

If you need help configuring the router...
In a Netscape/IE window surf to your router, unless you changed it the address is 192.168.1.1. You will be prompted for a username/passwd. The default passwd is admin for linksys routers. So, do not enter a name and only enter admin for the passwd. If memory serves, you want to select Dynamic Forwarding under the Advanced Tab.

The port number you want to forward is 80 and the IP is the comp you want the traffic to go to.
