Do HP's have non standard PSU's like Dell?

I was wondering if HP's used non standard power supplies. The current one is making weird noises. Can you tell by the color of the wires?

I have never heard them to be non standard. And I have replaced power supplies on HP Pavillions and they were standard.

The only thing is that they are usually "micro atx" power supplies...which is a fancy way to say they are smaller than regular atx supplies. (dells are regular size but they have switched some of the wires around)

So if you have an HP it is probably a "micro atx" supply....look on the back of the supply and see if there are 3 screws holding it in...as opposed to 4.

Usually they are underpowered also..like 145watts or so....luckily now there are replacements available which are stronger.

such as http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...alog=58&depa=0

(if you click on "more images" you see what I mean about it having 3 mounting screws...in a triangle instead of a rectangle like regular atx)

My 2 year old Compaq, had a non standard power supply and when it burnt out, I had to buy a new one for about 100 bucks directly from Compaq. It was a propietary one.

I sold several HP's in mini-tower cases that were in the 600-700mhz range and they all had standard micro atx p/s like the ones John Prophet is talking about.

Thanks guys for the quick answers. Can you tell if it's non-standard by the color of the wires though? like a normal molex would have yellow/black/black/red. If it was non standard it would be different?

And yea I'm probably just gonna by a $20 mid tower case. The ones I can get are actually not bad in quality ^^

just to confirm what JP and elroy already stated, HP's use a standard PS (unless you've got some incredibly ancient model that i ain't heard about ). the only issue really is the form factor of the case...as they said, the mini-towers tend to use the micro-atx.
