Mandrake 9.2 partitioning

I installed mandrake 9.2 on a second drive on my xp system. It is an 80gig drive orginally formatted to FAT32. As part of the Mandrake install I resized the drive to allow half for mandrake. Worked great and mandrake installed no problem. However when I boot into xp and look at the drive it shows that the entire drive is available. My assumption was that it was only going to show half the size. I am concerned that if i write information to that drive in xp....it will damage the mandrake part. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

It shouldn't be showing it wrong. You have one of two things going on here.
1) Something is messed up in the FAT Table, the partitioning went wrong.
2) Windows is just being stupid

Go to Start -> Run -> compmgmt.msc

From there it is like disk management or something to that effect. How does that see the drive?

Also is there anything on the 40GB that is suppossed to be Fat32? If not I would recreate that partition and reformat it.

Just for future reference here is what I did to make it work:

The Problem:
Originally I had partitioned the 80gig drive using the Maxtor utility. I created 1 partition using the entire drive. Mandrake had no problem resizing the partition and installing. The problem was that XP could not see the partitions that Mandrake had created and kept reporting the drive as 80gig.

The Fix:
I booted the PC using the Maxtor utility cd (got the iso from the maxtor site). Cleared all the partitions from the drive, then created a fat32 partition of approx 50gig leaving the last 30gigs unpartitioned. When installing mandrake I chose the unpartitioned 30gigs for the install and clicked "Auto-Allocate". Installation went great and both XP and Mandrake reported the drive properly.

I post this reply for search engine purposes.
