Most power supplies have a switch on them so that you can choose either 110 or 220 volt. Not sure about how it will plug in but it will have a 3 pronged plug on it.

the power supply in the computer will be a 110volt 60 hz supply. It will have a regular American three pronged plug.

The voltage in the UK is probably 220v 50hz.

So be careful before you plug it in....look on the back of the power supply and find the little switch that changes it from 110 to 220 volts.

If you dont switch it to 220 but instead you plug it straight in...expect to hear a loud pop and then expect to be replacing a power supply.

And, yes, you will need some sort of adapter probably to go from the 3 prong american plug to whatever plug is used in the UK.

As far as the 50hz UK versus 60hz american..hopefully it will not make a difference.

thanks.

yeah i have the adapter already, but the laptop has a power converter/transformer already built in so i didnt need one. just at the adapter.

So there should be a switch built into the power supply that i just need to use?? where on the power supply is it usually??

thanks

andrew

Are you talking about laptop or desktop? iF desktop then:

Not all power supplies have 110/220 switch, but usually it is on the back close to the power cord plug and fan.

If your comp. dont have this switch, I would replace power supply with one bought in England (that will will work for sure

i would think there would be a power cord you can buy that has the standard conniction to the psu on the back and a british outlet on the end if the make it so that you can swithch to 220 so that you could get one of those and it might be better than using an adapter

go here and look at the picture...the 110/220 switch is the little red thingy between the power switch and the plug. You just use a little flathead screwdriver to slide it over.

Send a message via Yahoo to Dax_Brandy
if the power supply doesnt have that voltage selector switch, go find a step down transformer that will convert 220 down to 110Vac.
