Help, please anyone. I have a compaq presario 5600i. It came with win 98. I put on windows me and the computer lost its audio. I tried to use my restore cds but they don't work. If someone has a suggestion please contact me as soon as possible. I will gladly appreciated. Thank you.

What kind of sound card is it? is it built into the motherboard?
Have you tried downloading drivers for the card?

What does it say in Device Manager under sound?

ME is flaky BTW - 98 a lot more stable. IMO

It is probably just a problem wtih the driver. Check your Windows Update for any drivers you need to download or go to Compaq's site and reinstall drivers. http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwar...etype=software

The sound card is built in and i tried downloading the drivers but it still doesn't work. when i go to the device manager it has a yellow exclamation point "creative sound blaster 16 plug and play (WDM).

Could i put back win98 on my pc? I don't have the original cd but i have an emergency starup floppy. Please help.

No, i don't have a recovery cd, i think they are damaged because i tried them and they don't work.
