In a move designed to make U.S. companies think twice about sending jobs overseas, a group of politicians is proposing a novel way to punish them for it.

Don't get your hopes up.
Election year politics will make sure this gets pigeon holed for awhile or shot down altogether (why would a corporation pay off their rep if they can't lay off american workers?)

The proposed Defending American Jobs Act, introduced on Wednesday, requires federal agencies that provide grants or loan guarantees to businesses to obtain reports on the number of employees those companies have inside and outside the United States, and on how much each group is being paid.

I don't get how this helps anything. I work for a multi-national company that has many overseas employees, but is not sending jobs overseas. So is the government going to pull business away because we employ people overseas?

Only if your company is laying off people heavily in the US AND hiring people overseas.
