Media March=BEST OF THE NEW CROP

I have heard so much about the new line of Graphics card ready to hit the market in Mid-March. I have also heard that these new cards are of a new architecture and are generally will be the fastest graphics cards, leaving the rest such as the 9800XT and FX5950 for dead. Is this right or are the new batch of cards just upgraded versions that will perform 12-15% faster when run in 1600x1400 resolution or any other ridiculous resolution? Or will we see the "dawn of a new era in PC gaming"?(sorry for the cliche'd lines, i just thought they sounded appropriate)

i don't think the 9800 series will be left in the dust...it will probably be around as fast as the equivlent to the 9600 series in the next generation...but i could be wrong

Doesn't matter much to me either. I'm happy with my "On board"
video.

Yes, the cards will be totally new. I would not put a number on how much faster they will be. Since we will still be using DX9, current cards will perform very well.

I've been doing some searching on the web, and found some interestuing comments.

1 was about the NV40, which stated something along the lines of:

If this thing will really do what it's specs make one believe it can do, then ATI had better start worrying.

And another was commented by ATI itself about their R420:

If all goes well, the R420 will be at least twice as fast as the 9800Pro.

I doubt if these cards will actually reach those heights, but at least we do know one thing:

They're not aiming for a mear 20% increase this time, they is going all out if ya ask me.

I'll try and find the linkies

what you found regarding the nvidia NV40 was here

I believe nvidia was holding back some tech from last years not-so-successfull geforce fx release (at least thats what I heard), and aims to make up any and all lost ground this time around. IMO ATI isn't going to be at the top much longer and they know it.

i just recently bought a 9800pro.... and when the new ones come out, i'll have to wait a year for the price to go down to purchase one of those too, 200$ every year and a half isnt that bad.... plus i'll be able to sell this one for 60$ or so then... cant wait for the new cards, then a year to pass by 8-)

That was the article Cysus, thanks.

Every time I read it my mind is going:

Ohh boy ohh boy ohh boy ohh boy.

I am definetely gonna get one of those babies.

I mean, ATI claimed their R420 would be at least twice as fast as the Radeon9800 Pro.

And now they're hoping for a close match with the NV40?? Damnit man, what the hell are we looking at here, next videocard round is gonna rock!!!!
