Have you run updated scans with AdAware and Spybot lately?

if you right click on your taskbar and select task monitor, then you will be able to use the network monitor, but i don't remember if it shows incoming and outgoing stats, or an aggregate of both. also use a firewall, and deny suspicious programs an internet connection. www.zonelabs.com

You might want to install a software firewall to see what is going online. It should work in a dial-up connection (I have only installed them on b-band comps). I use Sygate's Personal Firewall and it tells me when programs try to access the internet, and gives me the option to never allow them access (i.e it remembers and no-longer asks me).

As mentioned above you really should run Lavasoft's Ad-aware.

BTW the only reason I mention Sygate when paul9 already mentioned ZA is due to the issues it has (or use to have) with Blizzard games. For some reason they would never run correctly unless I shutdown (not disabled) my ZA firewall.
