how to get into safe mode?

I'm having a bit of trouble getting into safe mode on an ECS P4VXASD2+ v5.0

I know that it's always F8, but this board is weird. I have hit pause so that I can read what the screen says, but all I get is this info:

DEL goes to the BIOS, F8 goes to a boot menu, F12 is a network boot, TAB gives a logo, and ESC skips the memory test.

I can get into safe mode if I force shutdown, but it only worked once. I wanted to get into safe mode again, but when it goes to load whatever it loads (i think drivers), it would freeze at the end. I've checked the manual and search online with no luck.

If anyone knows, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Pressing 'F8' should give you a menu where you can boot into Safe Mode. You said it gives you a "boot menu", is this a menu that asks what you want to boot from? If so, you might have to wait until the Splash Screen pops up before you can press 'F8' to the get the OS boot menu.

What OS are you using?

That's exactly what F8 does, it asks me what to boot from. I'm using XP Pro.

EDIT: EvilRick, your a genius! I waited until the splash screen came up and boom, safe mode. Thanks a bunch!

try pressing f5 to go straight into safe mode....

probably you are waiting too long to press the button.....on the modern fast systems you cant wait till you see something to start pressing it....you just have to go ahead and start pressing it as soon as you hit the power button.

He's seeing the "Boot From Menu" because he's pressing 'F8' right after he powers on.

Do you see the screen that shows the progress bar going across to the right side? That's when you should press 'F8' to get the Boot Menu.

well, now i have another problem, when it gets to "giveio.sys", it'll lock up. when I push the num or caps lock the lights wont turn on. the OS loads fine.

EDIT: OK, never mind. I left the computer sitting there as I was typing, and it went into safe mode. i dunno, this board is really weird. lol. anyway, thanks guys.

BTW, JP is a genius too. lol He's answered a few of my other threads.
