Ok i just put this computer together and am having trouble getting xp pro to work. I finally got windows to work but it keeps crashing, just totally locking up with no warning. Does nayone know of any known errors or hardware compatibility.

via rhina 2 integrated ethernet adapter
pentium 4 2.66 ghz
geforce fx 5200

Welcome to TechIMO!!

You might want to boot into safe mode, remove the network card and sound card in device manager, shut down, remove the cards, start up, and see if you get stability.

If you do then I would put the cards back in, ( one at a time ), in different slots and see if that works.

well both are intergrated on the motherboard so i can just disable them. i am just reading now that the drivers for both are not tested or compatible with win xp.

are there any other known problems with ecs boards everytime i try to install form an xp cd ithe computer just locks up, the only way i got it to work was to install win 98 then upgrade. Ihave a 400w power supply is that adequate.

If there's an option to disable "Legacy Audio" do that. I had a problem w/ a GA7ZXE and I had to disable the Legacy Audio to get it to work. It would stop at the same place each time during the install.

ok now there is about the same problem happening again, i don't think it is the audio i let xp install that itself using its own drivers. I am still getting crashes i think i noticed it after installing office 2000 pro if that has anything to do with it. But each time it restarts it runs scandisk and finds at least one file with an allocation unit that is not valid and truncates it it seems to be internet files coming fomr my cookies folder and my temp internet files but one file keeps popping up and that is like tmp0001 something almost everytime.

Is this happening due to data corruption due to a faulty harddrive?
it is a new western digital 120g hdd and there was no obvious damage
i am also using the fat32 file system

You could try running the Recovery Console and run:

chkdsk /p
