Tech Is there a DR in the house! My XP is sick!

I did a reinstall of XP Pro without formatting, I had some XP file problems (you know that boot loader thing and this and that missing .dll All went fine, but I have these user accounts from the last install and the new one doesn't see them or the software that was being used by them.
So I guess 2 things,
How do I get rid of the extra user accounts, (do I need to edit the registry?)
and how do I get the fresh install to see my old software?
It's there, but even doing a search it doesn't show up.

Doctors! can we save this patient?? Paleeeese! I'll really be a crabby moderator if we can't!

You still have to resintall your old software when you reinstall the OS. That's why I never do reinstalls, seems like it's more work than if you just do a clean.

If the user accounts show up in Computer Management under Local User and Groups, you can delete them there. If they're not there, then you should just be able to delete the folders in the Documents and Settings folder. You could try deleting the SID's (Security ID's) out of the registry, but that might lead to more problems.

I have the same thing on my 2K re-install.

Could have sworn I chose reformat.

But, nonetheless, I have my old Admin settings still there.

Didn't make me crabby though.

What's really fun, is when you have 2K Pro, and then reinstall XP Pro over that.

Sorry I can't help you, as I've always just fresh installed XP. Too many problems for this techie.

My Advice: Backup any and all files you think you will want later, then wipe, then fresh install of Linux, oh I mean XP...

Dave

Actually Dave I am going to install Linux. Crouse will assist me.

Heehee everything makes me crabby except chocolate!

I think I need to do some registry editing... I'm going to look at this some more. Seems to me you could consolidate stuff into the registry... (hmm I have a back up in Fingers computer...maybe)
What the heck its no value now, and I have another hard drive to install so I'll have two. I may just move and copy what I need then take a hammer to it and find out.... How it Works
