photoshop: building manipulation help?

building

i'm looking to manipulate the attached photo in the above style, but with a transparent background tutorial/pointers/help? i'm a big loser when it comes to photoshop

Not sure if I understand your question Cookie. Do you mean something like this? Or am I way off base?

Well, a little more than that...

It was done by doing;

Image / Adjustments / Equalize,
then Image / Adjustments / Invert (except for the Obey poster),
then Image / Adjustments / Threshold,
then Select / Color Range to select all the white area,
then Delete to make that area transparent,
then Select / Feather / 0.5,
then Select / Inverse,
then Edit / Fill / Black 100%
