If you do have a hardware router (like Linksys/Netgear)
1) Install the phone company supplied filters onto all phone jacks that have phones/fax machines/dialup modems plugged into them. DO NOT put one onto the phone jack the DSL is going to use.
2) Plug in the hardware router to the modem's network jack and into your PCs LAN card. Plug the DSL modem into the wall phone jack.
3) Turn on the DSL modem, turn on the router, turn on your PC
4) After your PC powers go into the router config (usually a web interface) and ensure it is running DHCP and enter the user ID and password assigned by your ISP. Ensure your PC is set to automatically be assigned an IP via DHCP. You may have to reboot.
5) Try connecting to the Internet
If you DO NOT have a hardware router do these steps
1) Install the phone company supplied filters onto all phone jacks that have phones/fax machines/dialup modems plugged into them. DO NOT put one onto the phone jack the DSL is going to use.
2) Plug your PCs LAN card into the DSL modems LAN port. Plug the DSL modems phone jack into the wall phone jack
3) Turn on the DSL modem, turn on your PC
4) Install your ISP's software (if any). You may have to reboot after.
5) Try connecting to the Internet
That should do it.
Did I miss anything anyone?
