what temp are 2500+ supposed to run at?

i had a stock heat sink and fan that came with the 2500+ barton processor, and it ran at 3300 rpm and ran like 50-65 degrees celcious and i went out and bought a new heatsink and fan areo cool that runs at 4560 rpm and 40-55 degrees celcious and i was wondering what temp should a 2500+ barton run at because i have no idea what are good temps.

40-55 is quite acceptable
60 is getting a bit warm.

It also depends on what motherboard you're using.

I've got a Gigabtye something-or-other with an NForce2 chip and it's a known issue for them to read 5-10 C higher than "normal".

My 2500+ ran at around 45-50 with the stock HSF (NF7-S) but has run anywhere from 35-50 with my SLK-900A. The main reason that temp is so high, though, is that it's near a heater.

It depends on where the fan is, but adding airflow is usually a good thing. Make sure it's blowing into the case, not out of it.

If you have those tiny holes for a fan guard you are loosing over 50% of your flow. Those need to be cut out and replaced with the wire type, and the front ones behind the faceplate should have no guards. The faceplates of a lot of cases have no way for air to get in, so you can cut out the plastic at the very bottom where it can't be seen

Your new temps are fine. One thing that is almost always overlooked when trying to cool a system is the power supply. Does it have two fans? Does it have large opening to allow a lot of air movement through it and the case? Remember how close to the cpu the PS sits in most cases.
