Server Monitor Software

Does anyone have any experience with using server monitoring software for monitoring remote hosting? I need to know when my webhost's server goes down and log it, etc...and haven't been able to find anything that will suit my needs.

Any help is, as always, greatly appreciated.

serversalive would be one option, I use it at work and it has quite a good feature set IMO.

Servers Alive Features
Servers Alive is a full feature network monitor. You can monitor:
PING
TCP Services - Any service that will respond to a TCP connection, such as web, ftp, and mail servers.
You can even define your own TCP based checks with our protocol builder.
UDP Services - Some popular UDP based services, such as radius servers, CITRIX servers, and many game servers.
You can even define your own UDP based checks with our protocol builder.
DNS IPv6 check!!
Windows Servers - Monitor the status of services, processes, disk space, and Performance Monitor metrics.
Web Services - Verify the status of your web servers (HTTP, MMS, and RTSP). And this by retrieving a page (HTTP(S) GET) or by posting data (HTTP(S) POST).
Using a proxy? Not problem we can handle that.
Your webpage is protected with a password (HTTP authentication)? Again no problem we also support that.

Databases - Monitor MS SQL and Oracle databases.
Netware
SNMP
You also have the ability to write custom software to do your own checks through Servers Alive.
Regards

WebTrends also does web server testing.
