Kids Two different virus programs.

I have an Aptiva E. seeries 540.
Windows 98SE
256 Mgb. memory
10 gig hard drive
Linksys Fast Ethernet 10/100 Ethernet Card
56KV90 Modem.

I have just had to run the restore disk on my machine, because of a malfuntion of some sort with Nortan Internet Security 2003. It would not let my computer finish loading before it went to blue screen. Before this happened I noticed that I could not make any changes with my parental controls. There was another user listed there, that had never been there, and one that I could not deliete, or change.(I was the supervisior, no one else has access to my computer at home) Anyway I tried uninstalling and then that is when I got the blue screen and couldn't get windows to come up, not even in safe mode.

Refuse to reinstall Nortan Internet Security again.

I have this fixed and back up and running...finally. I now have these products running:
AVG6.0 Free Addition
Ad-aware 6.0 Free Addition
Spypot-S&D Free Addition
Zone Alarm Free Addition

I am really happy with all these products. Except I want more email protection then what I have. The AVG6.0(Free) only give you the basic protection for VBS.

I can not afford to go out and buy another antivirus program at this time, so I was wondering if you all knew of another Good Virus program that is free that I can run along with all the products mentioned above , including AVG6.0(free)?

I realize from several of the posting on this site, that you cannot run two different firewall programs, so Zone Alarm should be plenty.

I am not sure however about antivirus programs. Can you run multiple programs at the same time, without having any problems.? What should go well with AVG and Zone Alarm?

Any comments would be appreciated. And thank you in advance for your help.

Use the free version of MailWasher to check your e-mail. Deal with it before it hits your computer.

You do not need, nor is it recommended, to run more than one antivirus program, or more than one firewall program. Read the literature from any of the AV programs... none of them recommend running more than one. I know NAV includes a very good mail AV scanning program, and Zona Alarm Pro offers "Mail Safe" to quarantine mail attachments.

Ad-Aware and Spy-Bot are not run as services, but as applications, and you would not run them at the same time, so no problem.

Here's what I run on all three PCs in my home network:
NAV2003, patches and defs up-to-date (incl mail scanner)
Zone Alarm Pro v4.5.538.001 (incl a pop-up blocker and mail attachment quarantine)
Spam-Pal v1.53 (freeware)
Ad-Aware 6.0 Personal ed. (freeware)
Spy-Bot Search-and-Destroy v1.2 (freeware)

All three PCs sit behind a Linksys BEFSR41 router, which provides NAT
Finally, I always install all the latest WinXP security patches as soon as they become available.

I cannot even reinstall my McAfee unless I first uninstall it.

Tried once (by mistake ) and McAfee would not install as a," ERROR; Another Anti-Virus program is present," occured.

You can however, disable a installed A/V program and run a online scan.
