Mozilla 1.6 on RedHat 7.3

I just updated my version of Mozilla from 1.3 to 1.6 on my RedHat 7.3 box. I noticed a couple things and was wondering if anybody else had the same problems.

The Wood and Walnut themes don't work, even though they're listed as being 1.6 compatible.

I have 2 icons for Mozilla - one for mail and one for the browser. It used to be when I clicked on the browser icon, a new browser window would open regardless of if other mozilla windows were already open. Now, if another mozilla window is open, I'm asked to select a profile because the default one is in use.

It's been a while since I've used Mozilla (esp on Linux) but I don't think this is a RH issue.

As for themes, I'm not too sure about that one. It sounds like a problem with the theme though so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

As for the ability to open two session of Mozilla at once without selecting a profile - I'm not sure as every version of Mozilla I had in Linux did that. (I'm really helpful huh?)

Can you tell us how you installed/upgraded Mozilla? Was it via apt4rpm or did you just download the tar.gz from Mozilla.org?

I'd have to agree about the theme issue being a problem with the theme and not the browser. I want my woodgrain back though damnit!

I downloaded the binary installation package and installed it that way. Everything went perfectly and has been working great except for those two things. The second one I've even found a work-around for, although it is annoying and I always do it the old way. I have it set to open the browser and mail on launch, then leave the browser window open all day.

Well if you can upgrade to a new(er) version of RedHat/Fedora I'd suggest Epiphany. It's my favorite Linux browser.

I'd look to make sure its using the mozilla script for the new version you installed. I had the same problem with older versions of mozilla and firebird. The newer script should check to see if mozilla is already running and if it is, use mozilla-xremote-client to open a new window in the existing mozilla process.

I can't stand the way Epiphany handles bookmarks.

I haven't used it or Linux in a while but that was one of the things I really liked. Maybe they've changed it considerably though in the last 6 months.

I've created a symbolic link in /usr/bin that points to the true mozilla script in /usr/local/mozilla (before it was pointing to /usr/lib/mozilla), so I'm pretty sure it's executing the right script. I've also tried executing the script from a terminal window directly. If I put the process in the background, then start another one, it works fine. If I start one from a terminal window, then start another from a different terminal window, the profile selection box pops up. Maybe I'll just change the button on my panel to execute mozilla-xremote-client instead of mozilla; that should solve things, correct?

I may try out Epiphany. You mentioned that 'if I upgrade to a newer version of Redhat/Fedora' try it - does this mean it only works with RedHat? I think that if I do re-install my machine (which I don't even want to think about), I'm going to go with Mandrake 9.1. I just installed it on the parents box and was really impressed by it.

I have Epiphany installed on Gentoo. I think it requires a pretty recent version of Gnome and Mozilla.
