WIN98se icon cache issues??

I have friend with some icon issues on his w98se machine.
Its a Dell optiplex P2-400ish machine...128m ram I think.

I built it so it had all the updates etc...of course that was several months ago.

Anyway, he runs a certain business software on it...something like "IC Solutions"..for drawing up insurance quotes.

So everything was fine until he tried to install the new version of the software.....evidently they had very explicit instructions...telling him to ctrl-alt-delete to cut off everything etc....anyway it evidently didnt go perfectly, lol

and now his icons are messed up....they all show the symbol for "My computer"..although they all still work correctly..they just have the wrong picture.

Anyway to easily fix this?

I have heard the term "icon cache"...is that a true term? lol

Thanks, JP

Delete the file "ShellIconCache" (no file extension) from the Windows directory. It is a hidden/system file, so you'll need to enable that in Folder Options. Once you've deleted it, empty the Recycle Bin and reboot.

This is basically what TweakUI is supposed to do, but have found it doesn't always work.
