Nvidia display problem
Hey,
When I view images (eg jpegs, avatars) and clips in Windows Media Player, they are very dark and difficult to see. My desktop is fine though so simply adjusting the brightness / contrast doesn't work because although I can then see the pics, the desktop becomes too bright. I need a way to specifically adjust the brightness of the picture images being displayed without changing the desktop brightness.
Anyone have any ideas?

ummmm....first of all dl the latest drivers, but it may not necesarily be an nvida prob with what you have described
if it is an old monitor, the tube could possibly be going out
also why are you using windows media player to view pics? use paint or something that load quicker, media player is more for movies and music
i cant give too much help on this matter, but seing as how you had no replies, i hope this can be at least of some help to you

Check the ATi properties!
You will find in the advanced display section
a setting for something called Overlay!
That controls the movies brightness and all that stuff in all players (PowerDVD, Media Player, etc.).

My post should have read :
"When I view images (eg jpegs, avatars), and clips in Windows Media Player..."
Meaning video clips in media player and jpegs and avatars on the internet in general viewing.
In the Nvidia desktop color settings there are three options,
Desktop, Overlay/VMR, and Full screen video.
I set the brightness and contrast on the Overlay setting to max but the movie clips were still playing too dark. Same with Full screen video.
The jpegs and avatars on web pages also remain the same.
I have also downloaded the latest drivers. Could it be a monitor problem then(the is no problem with the screen brightness in general and the desktop) The monitor is about three and a half years old.

hmmm.....if you have windows get all the updates
otherwise im stumped
it doesn't sound like a monitor problem, because it only does it in wmp
i coudl also be windows media player, try downloading the WMP 9 series, maybe that would help, but this is a very weird problem

Oops, I needed to adjust the gamma on the Overlay setting, not the contrast or brightness. It no longer plays too dark anymore. Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.
