thinkpad 380Z memory and LCD issues

i have a ibm thinkpad 380z and well lets start with the LCD problems, the LCD works..seemingly but only when the lid is practicly closed 1/4th of the way open it lights up just fine but if i try to open it any further it goes straight off, so im thinking the LCD screen is obviously good but is it the inverter or the LCD cable thats bad? i booted into the system test via F1 and tested the display but it tested ok so i dunno where to start. Ok now for my memory prob the onboard 32mb memory tests fine but if i try to insert a 64mb dimm it doesnt throws a 205 error i have two good sticks tried both.

thnx for the help.
