Can anyone tell me exactly what this does for me? Faster? Better? If you have a link that has anything to do with it also, please, post it.

well, 1, the cables can be much longer than with the regular IDE cables....and they're not as bulky. Yes, SATA has the ability to be faster than regular IDE, just search google for serial ata or go to www.tomshardware.com and search for SATA there.
