DPC123 is on a distinguished road

While surfing the net on 29 Feb, my computer locked up. On restart, I get the follwoing message BEFORE Windows starts up:

"Validation failed for C:/windows/system/VSUTIL.DLL"

I can't even get started using my computer, except in safe mode.

Running Windows 98, Norton Anti-Virus, and Zone Alaram

Anybody know how I deal with this?

Thanks

DPC

I found this on the Zone Alarm website.

Do you know how to edit the registry? if you do go thru this, http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conten...InstallFAQ.jsp to uninstall ZA and then go to your windows temp folder and delete everything, then find the folder named Internet logs and delete it then empty your recycle bin. ZA should be gone. When going thru the instructions, ignore the uninstaller download, and also ignore the deskband registry entry. Once its gone, reboot and reinstall ZA.

Difficult to do when I can't even get to Windows. I get the error message at my desktop and when I close it, it just comes up again. Basically can't do anything (I'm writing these messages from my work computer).

Do it in safe mode.

If you need to perhaps you can print the instructions at work.

Is there a way to edit the registry from DOS?
