fax software for broadband ?

im lookin for a fax service for my dsl connection that only has a one time setup fee so that i can have a local # to send and recive. i dont do a lot of faxing, hardly any but would like to have the option. so a monthly fee service don't seen logical to me

Doesn't XP have a fax service in Accessories > Communications?

I use WinFax on my 2K along with the fax service in Communications.

With Winfax I can scan and fax and you have the choice of dialing or sending by email.

Fax arrives with a link to a small download file for anyone without WinFax to download and view the fax.

It can be set to auto receive and you can set the number of rings before it picks up.

With one phone line that could be a hassle.

I usually only have the program running when I am waiting for a fax.

You will need a modem.

I have DSL and use my computer to send/receive faxes. I don't do very many. DSL connection has nothing to do with the ability to send/receive faxes. You can do both simulataneously with one line.

Your problem will be trying to differentiate between incoming fax and voice. It's really not much of a problem if you know WHEN a fax is coming. If you don't know when people will send, it is easier and probably less expensive to subscribe to one of those online services. It probably costs a good chunck to get a second drop installed AND there are monthly charges.
